Why Food Matters in The Summer Breeze Series (Plus a Free Recipe Book)

I have a confession: I'm not sure I know how to write a scene without food in it.
Food shows up in my books the same way it shows up in real life—as comfort, connection, celebration, and love. In my stories, a meal is rarely just a meal.
It's where people gather.
It's where conversations happen.
It's where relationships begin, heal, and sometimes change forever.
Where It All Started
I grew up in a home where food was one of the primary ways people expressed love.
If someone was celebrating, there was food.
If someone was struggling, there was food.
If family came to visit, there was definitely food.
The kitchen wasn't simply where meals were prepared. It was where life happened.
Many years later, when I started writing fiction, that naturally found its way onto the page.
Food as Community
When I created Callie Williams and the town of Seneca Springs, I knew food would play an important role in the story.
After all, The Summer Breeze Bed & Breakfast isn't just a place where people sleep.
It's a place where guests are welcomed.
Where strangers become friends.
Where people find comfort after difficult days.
And often, that comfort begins around a table.
Some of my favorite scenes in the series take place in the b & b kitchen, a bakery, and restaurants.
Not because something dramatic is happening. But because that's where people gather.
Why Readers Mention the Food So Often

One of the most surprising things readers tell me is how often the food stays with them.
I've heard from readers who:
Finished a chapter and immediately went looking for a recipe
Added ingredients to their grocery list while reading
Started baking after finishing one of the books
Wanted to visit Seneca Springs simply to eat there
As an author who loves both storytelling and cooking, those comments always make me smile.
Because food isn't just decorating the story.
It's part of the story.
